The Real Story Staff Report
Some of Columbus’ finest undiscovered talent entertained an enthusiastic crowd at Words & Music: An Evening of Spoken Word and Songs, this past Friday night, at Cafe Aromas.
This open mic night event featured four musician/vocalists and two spoken word artists. Songs that were performed spanned the genres of Country, Blues, Rock & Roll, and Bluegrass, by Shane Tubbs, The Priest & The Saint, and the father-daughter duos of Tom & Jennifer Henderson and Larry Priest & Marnie Gill. Marquet McBride delivered some powerful spoken word, while Cherri Golden treated the audience to a dramatic reading from Tennessee Williams’ Orpheus Descending, as well as a couple of Tennessee’s poems.
These events, which are sponsored by Cafe Aromas and coordinated by Random Acts of Culture, and are held monthly, have drawn impressive crowds, with approximately forty people in attendance, last Thursday.
