MSU-Florida Post-Game Wrap Up: Gators Press Too Much For The Dawgs

January 29, 2012

News, Sports

Instant Analysis: The Mississippi State Bulldogs came into their matchup against the Florida Gators looking for a key SEC road victory. The Bulldogs fought hard, but the Gators’ full court press was too much for the Bulldogs. The Gators defeated the Bulldogs 69-57. The Gators were paced by Bradley Beal, who scored 19 points. Mississippi State falls to 17-5 and 4-3 in conference play.

Key Stats

Florida 11 Three Pointers: The Gators hit 11 threes, and the Bulldogs hit seven. The Gators won by 12 points. This was the most telling stat.

MSU One Block: Sidney, Moultrie, and Lewis have to contest more shots. One block is inexcusable against a team that they have such a height advantage over.

Florida Five Turnovers: The Gators had a plus nine turnover margin. They played more under control than the Bulldogs, and that’s why they won.

What I Liked

Bost Facilitating: I like this new Dee Bost. He is turning into a true point guard. It will serve the Bulldogs well the rest of season.

Sidney’s Energy: Stansbury‘s strategy of playing Sidney in spurts was a good move. I think it needs to be the strategy going forward.

What I Didn’t Like

Reliance On Moultrie: The coaching staff have diluted themselves into believing Moultrie is an explosive scorer. He is not a top-notch scorer, and it shows up against high-caliber opponents.

Players To Watch

Florida

Bradley Beal: Beal had a big day and was one of main reasons Florida won.

Mississippi State

Rodney Hood: Hood only scored only seven points on six shots. Moving forward, I believe he must get ten plus shots a game.

Three Keys To Victory

Florida

1. Double Sidney: When Sidney did post, Florida didn’t double him.

2. Speed It Up: The Gators pushed the tempo, and it was one of main reasons they won the game.

3. Clog Lanes: Florida did a solid job of stopping the Bulldogs from being able to penetrate.

Mississippi State

1. Do Not Take The Bait: The Bulldogs tried their best to keep the pace of the game slow, but the Gators did a good job of keeping the game up-tempo, thus keeping the win away from the Bulldogs.

2. Feed The Beast: The Bulldogs tried to get the ball to Sidney at times, but he was on the high post most of game.

3. Play Smart Basketball: The Bulldogs lost, but I liked how smart they played.

Final Analysis: The Bulldogs will have a week off before facing the Auburn Tigers next Saturday. It will be a 3 pm tip-off at Humphrey Coliseum.

The Real Story Player Of The Game

Bradley Beal: The sensational freshman balled out today and led his team to victory. He scored 19 points and grabbed four rebounds.
